GENERAL INFORMATION

The 34th SEGH International Conference will take place Livingstone, Zambia 2-7th July 2018 on the theme of Sustainable Geochemistry.

Arrival to Livingstone: Regular flights connect to Livingstone via Johannesbourg and Addis Ababa from beyond Africa, with many pan-African flights direct into Livingstone.

A visa can be applied for on entry to Zambia ~$50US. If you wish to cross the border into Zimbabwe to view the Falls from a different angle, make sure you ask for a multiple entry visa if you wish to return to Zambia.  If arriving via Victoria Falls airport in Zimbabwe, you will have the visa in Zimbabwe to pay ~$50US, but you will need to pay the visa also for Zambia. Taxis will take you across the border – make sure you negotiate a price first at the airport.

The conference venue at AVANI Victoria Falls Resort-Livingstone is located within 100m of Victoria Falls on the Zambian side, approximately 5-10mins car ride from Livingstone town. By taxi ~100 Zambian Kwacha/~$10US. It is a similar distance and cost from Livingstone airport to Livingstone town.

Accommodation prices range from $20/night in small ‘value’ lodges, $80/night boutique lodges up to $250 in 5-star hotels.  We are currently negotiating discount rates with local hotels – we will keep you updated as information develops.

$40-50/nt should provide good, but basic accommodation with WiFi and breakfast in Livingstone. Accommodation tends to be cheaper in Livingstone, although there are a number of small lodges of 20-40 rooms close to the Zambezi between Livingstone and AVANI Victoria Falls Resort. A bus will be provided to pick up delegates each morning and drop off each evening at key points and specified times.

You may wish to stay in Livingstone where you will find a choice of restaurants, coffee shops (visit Kubu cafe near Shoprite) and curio markets, with a wider choice of accommodation within walking distance of each other. Getting around is very easy and cheap by taxi.
